Denmark Claims Final Elliott 6m Olympic Berth

The 2012 Elliott 6m Women's Match Racing Olympic Qualifying Regatta is complete. With Tamara Echegoyen Spain and Silke Lehtinen Finland claiming two of the spots by winning the semi finals the last day of racing left one more spot to be claimed by the winner of Denmark versus Argentina. Lotte Meldgaard Pedersen,Denmark took an early 2 nil lead in the best of five series, but Martina Silva, Argentina fought back with two wins to force a thrilling race five. In a tight race the Danish team managed to gybe for the finish and were able to hang on for the win, securing their Olympic spot. Finland won all three matches over the Spanish to win the event. The event was hosted by Key Biscayne Yacht Club, WIMRA, and Sail Sheboygan who supplied the fleet of Elliott 6m. Finland, Spain, and Denmark join the nine countries that have already qualified for the 2012 Olympic Women's keelboat event: Australia, France, Great Britain, Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Sweden, Russia, and USA.
