The Cruising Yacht Club of Australias Youth Sailing Academy fleet of ten Elliott 7s were officially launched on Thursday 25 July, by Commodore Howard Piggott, members of the committee and YSA sponsors. The launch of the new fleet is one of the major milestones in celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the foundation of the Youth Sailing Academy. After an extensive selection process, the Elliott 7 was selected as the new training vessel. The yachts replace the previous fleet of Elliott 6s and are able to accommodate up to five junior sailors when in training mode and sail with up to four senior sailors in match racing conditions. Chaplain Max Walker from HMAS Watson conducted the official blessing of the fleet. Each Elliott sponsor christened their sponsored yacht and were presented with a half model in recognition of their support. The boats will be making their regatta debut in the Club Marine NSW Youth Match Racing Championships to be held on August 3rd and 4th. Following this event the fleet will be in action when the CYCA hosts the Australian Open, Womens and Youth Match Racing Championships from 20 to 29 September.
