Congratulations to Harry Price & Team representing the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia - they won the 2020 Hardy Cup beating defending champion Nick Egnot- Johnson & his Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron team in the grand final.
The Hardy Cup International Match Racing Regatta is hosted by the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron and sailed at the RSYS on magnificent Sydney Harbour, in their fleet of Elliott 7 keelboats. It is one of the final events in a long Australasian youth match racing season.
Of the 13 teams at this year’s regatta six are from the top 25 Youth teams in the world. The RSYS reported that “The talented young crews gave a masterclass in match racing and exhibited some of the best quality racing seen in the Hardy Cup. Both the grand final and the petit final were intense – the racing was so close, any of the top four deserved to win.”
RSYS Sailing Captain commented ‘The Hardy Cup celebrated its 20th year at the Squadron with a record of 13 teams. I was delighted to welcome international competitors from Denmark, Sweden, Great Britain, New Zealand and New Caledonia. I believe match racing is a fantastic way to develop skills that can be applied across the many disciplines of sailing.”
The ‘King of the Castle’ format was used to determine 5th -13th place after the quarter finals.
